The Robert Baker Companies are a
group of companies that have evolved over the last 50 years. Headquarters
are in West Suffield, Connecticut.
THE CONNECTICUT DIVISION,
The Robert Baker Company,
is comprised of three separate growing organizations consisting of the
Robert W. Baker Nursery, Inc., Atlantic Tree Nursery, Inc. and Robert
Baker, Inc. Each of these specializes in its own area of production. One
shipping department consolidates loads for all companies.
Robert W. Baker Nursery, Inc., founded in 1956 as a general line nursery,
presently grows 350 acres of Taxus, Pine, Hemlock, Flowering Shrubs, and
other ornamentals.
Atlantic Tree Nursery, Inc. is an offshoot of Robert W. Baker Nursery,
Inc. and was founded in 1966 to specialize in the growing of caliper shade
trees and large evergreens. Today it grows 500 acres of quality shade
trees and evergreens, gearing itself into the 2 - 5” caliper market.
Robert Baker, Inc. is the container-growing arm of the Connecticut
operation. It was
started in 1968 on a 4-acre experimental basis. In 1974 after a 30-acre
expansion in
one location, it acquired another local container operation resulting in
two production centers in the town of Suffield. It has expanded to
approximately 350 acres in three locations devoted to shrubs, shade,
ornamental, fruit trees, evergreens, and ericaceous material.
Medford Nursery, Inc. is based in Medford,
New Jersey. This is strictly a container operation acquired in 1980. This
facility is the premier supplier for top quality container plants in the
Northeast market. It is presently growing on 320 acres.
Northern Nurseries, Inc.
is made up of nine
re-wholesale distribution centers, headquartered in Enfield, Connecticut.
The nine centers are located in Schenectady, Fairport, and Cicero, New
York; Wind Gap, Pennsylvania; White River Junction, Vermont; Barrington,
New Hampshire; Somerset and Medford New Jersey; and West Suffield,
Connecticut.
In 1996, Northern Nurseries, Inc. created The Professional Turf Division
to service municipalities, institutions, cemeteries and golf course
markets. They provide a wide range of products that includes: nursery
stock, agricultural chemicals, fertilizers, seed, tools and landscape
construction materials, with a complete line of golf course accessories.
The production and marketing facilities of The Robert Baker Companies puts
them in an excellent position to service the landscape, garden center,
re-wholesale and mass market trade nationally. We are dedicated to
